The Operating Systems
electric radiant heat is more efficient? seriously?
The heating system of a Green Home home is comprised of a 100% electric radiant system that is both soundless and invisible in the finished home. This type of heating system is comprised of three parts:
- Earth Storage System – (Sometimes called slab heating.) A Green Home earth storage system is installed in the soil or sand under a concrete slab building foundation. The result is that the ground underneath becomes an efficient, large mass of stored thermal energy. It’s the same principle as the earth’s core. The system is charged (energized) when less expensive off-peak electric rates are in effect. The stored energy is only released when the area above it becomes cool. Otherwise the radiant heat remains where it is so there is no wasted energy. The system is protected from mechanical harm, corrosive chemicals, and moisture. Even the most hazardous of areas can be safely and economically heated.
- In-Floor Heat – a network of radiant heating pipes is installed in all tiled areas of the home.
- Radiant Panels – a network of heating panels, similar to in-floor heat, are installed behind the drywall.
This heating system is designed to be controlled from each individual room distributing heat in each room only when needed. The use of these three systems in tandem allows Green Homes to create one of the most efficient, low cost, and user-friendly heating systems available by today’s technology. Not a single aspect of this system relies on combustible gases or fossil fuels; it produces no CO2, and is 100% maintenance free.
